Cowichan Valley Regional District Onsite Sewage Treatment System Assessment Studies
Project Highlights
The Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) has many on-site sewage treatment systems that service subdivisions developed in the area. These systems are usually privately designed, constructed and operated.
KWL performed a number of sewage treatment system assessment studies to review the performance of the existing treatment and disposal systems, assess their condition and capacity, and recommend upgrades or equipment replacement as necessary to bring each of these plants into full compliance with the regulatory requirements and the CVRD’s services and control requirements. All of these systems are either provided with secondary or tertiary treatment with ground disposal. Treatment process types include rotating biological contactor (RBC), extended aeration (EA), suspended growth upflow blanket system (USBF) and membrane bioreactor (MBR).
KWL’s assessment studies provided important information to the CVRD while it was considering whether or not to take over and operate the systems.
