Cove Lift Station
Project Highlights
The District of West Vancouver (DWV) retained Kerr Wood Leidal to design the replacement of the Cove Lift Station located at 4784 Pilot House Road. The station services approximately 112 residences with a tributary area of 27.1 hectares, the second largest station catchment in the District. The station also received flows from Pilot House Road lift station and pumps to Picadilly lift station, which pumps the combined flows to Metro Vancouver’s Hollyburn interceptor.
The concrete wet well was in fair condition, but the mechanical and electrical equipment needed to be replaced. The District also wanted backup power, a SCADA connection, and the isolation valves to be relocated from the wet well to an external chamber to reduce hazards associated with confined space entry.
KWL designed a custom duplex pump station replacement which included a recoating of the station interior to extend service life, a complete mechanical and electrical replacement, the elimination of an ocean overflow, the installation of an external valve chamber, the establishment of a SCADA connection for remote monitoring and the fencing in of the project area to protect the infrastructure and operations staff and minimize visual impacts on the park in which the station is located. In addition, 23hp Flygt pumps and a 63kVA Kohler Diesel generator were pre-purchased and awarded to the contractor, and an external valve chamber was designed and built.
