KWL Congratulates Lulu Island Energy Company / City of Richmond on Winning the 2020 IDEA – Innovation Award

KWL congratulates the Lulu Island Energy Company / City of Richmond on winning the 2020 International District Energy Association (IDEA) – Innovation of the Year Award for its Alexandra District Energy Utility (ADEU) Phase 4: SmartREIT District Energy System Project. The Virtual Award Ceremony was on December 16, 2020.

“This years’ Innovation Award contest was one of the most diverse and crowded competitions in recent memory.” said Bob Smith, Innovation Award Committee Chair. “The Alexandra District Energy Utility (ADEU) Phase 4 SmartREIT District Energy System, employing air-source heat pumps, evaporative fluid coolers, condensing boilers, and geo-exchange fields to efficiently heat and cool a network of retail and commercial customers stood out above all of this year’s submissions.”

Rob Thornton, IDEA President and CEO agrees. “Lulu Island Energy, certainly advances that tradition by sharing valuable insights on how community-scale district energy systems can leverage reliable, renewable thermal energy from the earth.”

KWL designed the innovative award-winning project for Lulu Island Energy / City of Richmond.
