KWL Project Wins PIBC Award
The team for the Squamish Integrated Flood Hazard Management Plan won the 2018 Research & New Directions Award, Silver from the Planning Institute of British Columbia. The winners were: District of Squamish, Kerr Wood Leidal Associates Ltd., Arlington Group Planning + Architecture Inc. and SNC-Lavalin.
In 2014, the District of Squamish retained Kerr Wood Leidal Associates to lead a ground-breaking, three-year study to assess its flood hazards and recommend mitigation. The resulting Integrated Flood Hazard Management Plan looks beyond traditional floodplain mapping and systematically considers the interplay of physical, economic, social, and environmental risks. The IFHMP identifies an array of mitigation choices that balance the need for flood protection with impacts to stakeholders, the community, and the environment.
The Planning Institute of British Columbia (PIBC) is the professional association of planners in British Columbia and the Yukon. The Awards for Excellence in Planning honour the best in professional planning work. This year’s awards were presented on May 31 in Victoria, BC.
