KWL’S Still Creek Stewardship Initiative
KWL recently undertook riparian enhancement efforts in their own “backyard”. As part of KWL’s Still Creek Stewardship initiative, the company purchased four tree species:
- Western red cedar (Thuja plicata)
- Red alder (Alnus rubra)
- Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii)
- Black cottonwood (Populus balsamifera)
Staff volunteered their efforts to dig through the remains of blackberry bushes, and find suitable soil for the trees. The trees were planted in sections between the KWL head office and Dick’s Lumber in Burnaby.
KWL hopes that the trees will establish themselves as cover and habitat area for the local flora and fauna.
