Experience

With over three decades of experience at Kerr Wood Leidal Associates, Mike Currie has cemented his reputation as an accomplished water resources engineer.  Before his time at KWL, Mike honed his skills over seven years at the Water Management Branch of B.C. Environment.  Since then, he has become one of the foremost experts in debris flow hazard mitigation, flood emergency response and recovery, flood protection, and floodplain management in the province.  Three projects under his stewardship have been recognized for excellence by the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – B.C. Mike has held multiple management positions at KWL.  During his tenure as KWL President from 2006 to 2015, Mike led the charge on numerous projects, applying his expertise to tackle various challenges in the field.

Mike’s contributions to the industry have been significant.  He has served as B.C. and national president of the Canadian Water Resources Association and as the chair of the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – B.C.

In recognition of his outstanding service, Mike has received service awards from the Canadian Water Resources Association, the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C., Engineers Canada, and most recently, the Meritorious Achievement Award from the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – B.C. Mike’s expertise, dedication, and contributions undoubtedly make him a standout in water resources engineering.

  • Engineers Canada, Meritorious Service Award for Professional Service, May 2010, for outstanding service and dedication to the Canadian engineering profession.
  • Association of Consulting Engineering Companies BC (formerly Consulting Engineers of BC), Award of Merit, 2010, for Fitzsimmons Creek Debris Barrier project (Whistler, BC).
  • Engineers and Geoscientists BC, D.C. Lambert Professional Service Award, November 2009 for substantial contribution of service to the Engineers and Geoscientists B.C. or to technical and learned societies and organizations, which includes leadership and dedication to the Association or to other societies over a sustained period of time.
  • Canadian Water Resources Association, Distinguished Service Award, June 2003, for outstanding contribution to the development and management of water resources in Canada.
