Park to Conserve Bog and Support Agriculture

The City of Richmond is undertaking a multi-million-dollar design for its Garden City Lands that aims to conserve its peat-bog ecosystem and support agricultural production. The 52-hectare park could take an estimated $35 million and 10 years to fully realize.

The first phase of the park’s development is the Garden City Lands Water and Ecological Resource Management Strategy, authored by KWL’s Laurel Morgan. The report outlines a plan for water and plant-species management that would enable the peat bog and farmland to flourish side by side – a challenging task considering the very different hydrologic requirements of each.
