Lookout Reservoir Expansion Project
Project Highlights
Perched on the south slope of Cypress Mountain in West Vancouver, the Lookout Reservoir serves as both a vital water resource and a popular destination. The site offers stunning views of Vancouver, Stanley Park, UBC, and Vancouver Harbour while acting as the gateway to Cypress Mountain’s ski resort.
Originally designed by Kerr Wood Leidal in 2004, the first reservoir had a capacity of 1.44 ML. The recent expansion added a 2.09 ML twin reservoir, increasing total storage to 3.53 ML. This additional capacity supports water supply for existing homes and enables growth in the Rodgers Creek area, accommodating 736 new dwellings. The system also provides robust fire flow protection, delivering up to 200 L/s for 2.5 hours.
Controlled remotely via SCADA, the reservoirs ensure operational efficiency and reliability. Completed in October 2024 ahead of schedule, on budget, and with no change orders, the Lookout Reservoir Expansion underscores Kerr Wood Leidal’s commitment to delivering innovative and dependable solutions.
