Project Highlights

Stellaquo community water system, owned by Stellat’en First Nation, was experiencing issues with manganese and arsenic in their groundwater sources.  Due to elevated Arsenic levels, the water system had a Do Not Consume advisory for several years.  KWL completed a water source assessment and treatment options study to investigate the alternatives to meeting the Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality (GCDWQ).  A pilot water treatment plant was set up onsite, and data were collected to verify the best treatment process.  KWL completed the facility’s design in early 2017 based on the pilot study results, the work concluding in the construction of a new water treatment plant in 2018.  The plant has successfully been in operation since, and the First Nation Community has had no Boil Water or Do Not Consume Advisories.  KWL continues to provide in-person and remote technical services to the Stellat’en First Nation as part of its Performance Monitoring services.

Electrical Components:

This project included the design, shop testing, PLC and HMI programming, and onsite commissioning of the electrical, instrumentation and control (EIC) systems.

The control system was designed to allow the plant to continue to produce treated water, with minor Operator involvement, even in the event of the automatic control system failure or dropping offline.

The HMI and PLC are accessible over the internet to allow remote viewing and programming.
