Wakefield Beach Roads and Site Services
Project Highlights
Wakefield Beach is a strata development in Sechelt, BC. It comprises four triplex units and three beach houses on a 1.2-acre site with sweeping views of the Gulf of Georgia. Access is off Mason Road from the Sunshine Coast Highway.
Kerr Wood Leidal was retained to design and provide construction administration services for the development’s on-site and off-site roads and site services. The site slopes toward the ocean at about a 13 percent grade. The steepness of the site and existing access road provided interesting challenges for complying with the District of Sechelt’s bylaw requirements. Mason Road was upgraded to improve public access to the shoreline and street parking. The highway fronting the development was also widened to meet Ministry of Transportation requirements.
Stormwater management features were built into the road works. The on-site roads have narrow asphalt surfaces and wide gravel shoulders to reduce the amount of impervious surfaces. The existing 1000 mm diameter storm culvert was extended and a meandering channel complete with a stormwater energy dissipator were added to reduce the negative impacts of stormwater runoff entering the beach surface.
This development provides a pleasant space for 15 residents and improve public access to the beachfront.
